Our school Community – Koinonia (Greek for Community)

"The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t, the parts we see and the parts we don’t. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance."

1 Corinthians 12.24-25

Every member of the school community is valued and is equally important. We work together to ensure all feel valued and included. As a community we look after, welcome and accept each other. We worship together enabling ourselves to grow together and with God.

Celebration collective worship enables us to celebrate as a community in our achievements and ‘star of the week’ enable us as a community to celebrate a person’s qualities which makes them unique.

We have a school prayer that unites the community as we reflect on the individual part we all play in creating the school community.

To grow – Hope

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Philippians 4 :13

Christian hope is rooted in the character, the love and faithfulness of God. Through the message of the Gospels we will seek to develop the children’s spiritual lives so that they can be reassured that there is always hope for a better future.

Children are encouraged to persevere and build up resilience to approach new challenges both academically and physically. We encourage a ‘can do ‘approach to all learning.

To Nurture – Agape (a Greek word for caring love)

"A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have loved you."

The value of Love is the building block for everything we do at Mepal and Witcham. All members of the school community are encouraged to love and respect each other, themselves, God and his world. The belief that we are created in the image of God and are individuals leads to all being treated fairly. Everyone in the school community is nurtured both academically and emotionally to allow them to develop a love of learning and a desire to succeed. Because God loves us unconditionally, we are inspired to try to love other people and all of creation.

Individual needs are supported and if further support is required in order for the child to access learning then as a school we work with the families and outside agencies to ensure that the best provision is provided for the child. The school SENCO and the ELSA ( Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) work closely to ensure that needs are met.

To Flourish – Aspiration

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Everyone within the school community is encouraged and supported to achieve their aspirations and discover their God given talents and skills.

The children are provided space to develop their aspirations through different experiences and opportunities. The aim is for all within the community to become enthusiastic learners with ambitious aspirations for their future. The children are also encouraged to develop resilience in learning from mistakes and setbacks, as in the story of the prodigal son in the Bible.

Staff are encouraged and enabled to develop their skills and careers as well as the children. The whole community is encouraged to ‘dream big’.

The part of the curriculum which outline 100 things to experience before leaving Mepal and Witcham enables the children to broaden their outlook on life and the possibilities that are available for them to pursue.
