Collective Worship

Collective Worship

Mepal and Witcham CofE Primary School has close links with St Mary’s Church in Mepal and St Martin’s Church in Witcham.

The children regularly visit St Mary’s church to celebrate Harvest, Christmas and Easter. In the summer term we hold a weekly collective worship within the church building.

The whole school community Christmas service and Easter service has outgrown the capacity of the church so these are celebrated at school with the church community joining with us to celebrate.

The school welcomes visitors to lead collective worship and we regularly welcome ‘Light and Life’ and ‘GenR8’ two Cambridgeshire based school collective worship teams.

2017 SIAMS Report

Reverend Mary Hancock

Reverend Mary Hancock is the incumbent of both these churches as well as being one of our Foundation Governors. She is a regular visitor to the school, leading us in collective worship and supporting staff with the R.E. curriculum for example role playing weddings and christenings.

We join together daily for collective worship. This is an important time for us share, reflect and celebrate together. Central to the life of the school are the Christian values, Koinonia (Fellowship, the school community), Agape (God’s love, to nurture), Hope (to grow) and Aspiration ( to flourish).

Worship Around Christian Values

Each half term we focus our worship around a different Christian value over a two year cycle these include: Courage, Generosity, Compassion, Forgiveness, Friendship, Respect, Thankfulness, Trust, Perseverance, Justice, Service and Truthfulness.

Within the school there are reflective spaces where children have the opportunity to engage in writing prayers, reflecting and having a space to be still. We are currently creating an outdoor reflective space.
